Mixed Magic Theatre presents America’s longest running Kwanzaa play in concert the 15th annual “A Kwanzaa Song” by Ricardo Pitts-Wiley, featuring music directors Greg Johnson and Kim Pitts-Wiley, Saturday, Dec. 28 at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, Dec. 29 at 3 p.m. All ticketes are $15.

“A Kwanzaa Song” is the story of Azu, a young African Spirit. Azu must make a choice between staying to help and serve the people of Africa, which is his traditional mission, or accompany the continents stolen children to the New World where they will be in bondage. In the New World he is challenged to endure the hardships of slavery while holding on to the spiritual ties that will reconnect the stolen children to their African heritage once they have found freedom.

“A Kwanzaa Song” blends elements of dance, storytelling and an original 14 songs for an exhilarating celebration of the power of the human spirit for all times and all people.

The 2013 concert company will feature Jeannie Carson, Anthony (Raidge) Burton, Victor Terry, Alonzo Jones, Amiee Hamrick, Kyonna MacFarland, Jonathan Pitts-Wiley, Danette Briggs, Amos Hamrick Jr., Kali Otto, Jason Quinn, Dominque Braxton, and Zakiya Briggs.
