A Warwick motorcyclist was seriously injured after he hit a sign pole on Post Road in Warwick around 7:40 p.m. on June 15. Todd Jerdee, 42, was transported to Rhode Island Hospital where, as of yesterday, he is still listed in critical condition.
The initial investigation showed the motorcycle traveling south around the 5900 block of Post Road when the operator lost control, mounted the curb and struck a sign pole on the center median, where the bike came to rest. The operator was thrown from the motorcycle and landed in the roadway. The rider was not wearing a helmet.
“I think he’s lucky to be alive, to be honest with you,” said Lt. Michael Gilbert of the Warwick Police Traffic Division. “I believe he would have reduced the severity of many of his injuries if he was wearing a helmet.”
Police said it does not appear that speed or alcohol had anything to do with the accident and charges are not likely to be filed against the operator.
The Traffic Division’s Accident Reconstruction team is investigating the accident. The investigation is ongoing and anyone with information related to the crash is requested to contact the Warwick Police Department Traffic Division at 468-4343.
