Multimedia ‘Music Moves’ exhibit now showing at Warwick Library

The Warwick Public Library is holding a monthlong installation of local artist Reza Clifton’s multimedia photography exhibit “Music Moves” this month.

On June 26 at 6:30 p.m., the library and Clifton will be holding a closing reception. The reception is free and open to the public.

Clifton, a “digital storyteller,” has been previously recognized by Rhode Island Monthly, Providence Monthly and GoLocalProv for her ability to masterfully bring together different art mediums together in one fluid piece.

“Her interests are wide-ranging and her creative pursuits look for and find the shared circumstance and commonality in our human experience,” said Wil Gregersen, the community services librarian at the library.

“Music Moves” includes photography, poetry and music from right here in Rhode Island to around America and all the way to Spain. The inspiration behind the piece is that “music moves cultures and ideas; music moves through space and time; music moves the human spirit.”

Clifton, who is a freelance writer, activist and blogger, wants to “inspire viewers and participants to identify. Embrace, pursue and celebrate the things they love and the things that move them.”

Her installation is now up for viewing at the library and one section of the exhibit concerns “#BringBackOurGirls,” the activist campaign for the 300 Nigerian girls who were kidnapped. Clifton has been deeply involved in local efforts to help the young girls. In the exhibition, Clifton implores viewers to consider the life not just of the kidnapped girls, but the rest of the women suffering in the Congo.

Clifton will be returning to the library to hold a workshop called “Put Your Artistic Self Online” on June 28 and July 12, 19, and 26 from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The class works with participants on exhibiting their art through the online world.
