Central Falls Receiver Judge Robert Flanders will give the keynote address and head up a panel discussion centered on the municipal fiscal problems occurring around the state as the RI Statewide Coalition (RISC) holds its 9th Annual Winter Meeting on Saturday, March 10, at the Radisson Hotel at the Airport, 2081 Post Road, Warwick. The formal program gets underway at 9 a.m. following a coffee reception that starts at 8:15. The event is open to RISC members and the general public.
Others joining Judge Flanders on the panel will include Cranston Mayor Allan Fung; Woonsocket Mayor Leo Fontaine; House Finance Committee member, Representative Larry Ehrhardt (R-North Kingstown); and government finance expert, Gary Sasse, who is currently advising the Providence City Council as it deals with the city’s fiscal crisis.
“Deficits and pension debt continue to threaten the viability of several cities and towns in the state and the list of communities in trouble will only grow if municipal pension reform is not achieved,” states RISC Chairman Harry Staley. “Taxpayers deserve to hear firsthand from mayors and the state’s leading authorities on municipal finance on what can be done to rescue our communities, and we are honored to have Judge Flanders lead this critically important discussion.”
