Warwick natives Matt Murphy and Don McGuirl were recognized on the Northeast 10 Conference Baseball Honor Roll this week.
Murphy, who helped lead Bishop Hendricken to the state championship last season, is in his freshman year at Assumption College. In the big week, Murphy hit .391 (9-23) to go along with nine runs scored, eight RBI, three walks and two stolen bases for the Greyhounds. He was the only freshman on the honor roll. Murphy is hitting .254 on the season and has started every game.
McGuirl, who attended St. Sebastian’s and starred every summer for Warwick’s American Legion teams, is now a junior at St. Michael’s College. His hot streak featured a .435 batting average (10-for-23) with five runs and an RBI. McGuirl is hitting .325 on the year. Younger brother Nick McGuirl is also a member of the Purple Knights and has played in five games, with a .200 average.
