Music on the Hill celebrates 40th season

It’s just three weeks away: Music on the Hill will celebrate its 40th anniversary with the seventh season of its redesigned Music on the Hill Festival. Seven concerts offer glorious chamber music performed by Rhode Island musicians returning home to share their music. Concerts will take place in North Providence, East Greenwich, Providence and three venues in Warwick, all beginning at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are on sale now at www.musiconthehillri.com. Ticket prices range from $20 (before June 1) to $35.

Three concerts at Warwick’s Ocean State Theatre feature the acclaimed Miami String Quartet. Music on the Hill’s innovative programs combine highlights of the chamber repertoire (such as Schubert’s “Trout” Quintet) with lesser-known gems from familiar or living composers. Bach, Telemann, Beethoven, Brahms, Mendelssohn, Dvorak, Ravel, Debussy, and Strauss can be heard alongside Martinu, Schickele, Moscheles, Popper, Gillie and Didkovsky. A special Jazz Fundraiser Concert features the Peg Delaney Trio at New England Institute for Technology in East Greenwich on June 21.

“Every summer, Music on the Hill presents a nationally recognized concert series,” said artistic director John Mark Pellegrino. “Our music festival brings home the top professional musicians to Rhode Island who are eager to share their passion for music with a community they love. Joining us in June are so many extraordinary musicians. Making their Music on the Hill debut will be the incomparable Miami String Quartet, as well as cellists Paul Kushious and Michelle Djokic. Joseph Kalichstein returns for a fantastic piano-themed program at Sapinsley Hall at Rhode Island College. We are so proud to celebrate Music on the Hill’s 40th anniversary with all of Rhode Island, and look forward to meeting many new friends in June.”
