NEIT to offer paramedic technology program

Douglas H. Sherman, senior vice president and provost at New England Institute of Technology (NEIT), announced that beginning October 2015, the college will offer a new Associate in Science Degree program in Paramedic Technology. This program prepares licensed Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs) to provide care for diverse populations within the community. Throughout the curriculum, students engage in clinical and laboratory experiences to complement classroom learning.

Paramedics work in the fast-paced world of emergency medicine in rescue vehicles and emergency rooms as well as in doctors’ offices, home health care, long-term care, health care clinics, public health and outpatient care. Through this program, students will acquire paramedic knowledge and clinical training as well as communication, clinical reasoning and judgment skills offering these individuals the opportunity to pursue entry-level positions as pre-hospital care providers. Graduates of the NEIT Paramedic Technology program are eligible to take the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technician paramedic level exam (NREMT exam).

Sherman stated, “New England Tech’s Paramedic Technology program provides enhanced training to licensed EMTs to meet the health care needs of culturally and ethnically diverse populations. EMTs now have the opportunity to earn an Associate in Science Degree in Paramedic Technology, affording them the opportunity to later pursue a bachelor’s, master’s, or doctoral degree in Health/EMS Management or other related fields.”
