An odd looking automobile with a strange object attached to its roof has been seen driving through Warwick for the past several days. Bing Maps, Microsoft’s online mapping service, has taken to Warwick’s streets and public areas on a mission to accurately photograph the city’s roads, businesses and points of interest. Utilizing a sensor system, Bing takes photographs at street level with a 360-degree camera mounted to the top of cars and trucks. Their final product aids with navigation by allowing online viewers to see complete images of an area before traveling to it. Bing will use software to detect and blur faces and license plates that may have been photographed to protect individual privacy and comply with applicable laws. Pictures are then made available for viewing at www.bing.com/maps. (Warwick Beacon photo)
