New apps enable BankRI customers to activate/suspend debit card

Posted

As consumers continue to increase their use of digital banking, Bank Rhode Island (BankRI) introduced new features to its mobile banking app. Enhancements include the addition of a Card Manager platform and Peer-to-Peer Payments capabilities.

Aimed at providing customers with new levels of convenience and fraud protection, BankRI’s Card Manager allows individuals and businesses to control their BankRI debit card from their phone or mobile device. By using the BankRI mobile banking app, customers can use Card Manager to activate, suspend, or report their card as lost or stolen. An example of the feature’s value to customers is when traveling and concerns may exist regarding security. Consumers can suspend their card when it’s not needed, and re-activate it in real-time for use while in a merchant’s store. Following a transaction, the card can once again be suspended through Card Manager until needed again.

Along with Card Manager, BankRI has introduced Peer-to-Peer Payments, which allows individuals or businesses to send money to another person or business without having their bank account information. Through the BankRI mobile banking app, customers can initiate a payment that triggers an encrypted email to the intended recipient. Upon receiving the email, the recipient confirms their identity and banking information, resulting in an electronic transfer of funds from the payer. The feature, which has been gaining traction nationwide, is often used to lend money to a family member or friend, splitting the check at a restaurant, sending gifts of cash, and more.

This latest round of enhancements to BankRI’s mobile banking app follows the addition of features introduced less than a year ago – mobile check depositing and text banking services.

BankRI customers may download the mobile banking app – compatible with the iPhone and Android devices – by visiting www.bankrhodeisland.com and clicking on the “Mobile Banking” icon to the left.
