A new city requisition system took effect last week that Mayor Scott Avedisian says will result in a more efficient process that also saves money.
The modernization program abolishes the need of paper requisitions, so there’s no need of printing and storing requisition forms. It also eliminates the need to send the forms via interoffice mail, saving processing time.
The system provides the person submitting the requisition with a real-time balance of funds available in a particular budget line item, which will save time in the review process. Department directors will also be able to see the real-time status of where the requisition is in the approval process. The system saves time because it feeds directly into the Purchase Order system (which was upgraded in January), reducing some of the manual input required to create purchase orders.
This requisition system upgrade, along with the purchase order system upgrade, will soon allow the city to email purchase orders to city vendors, thereby reducing printing and mailing costs.
