New entertainment trend at Foxwoods

There’s a new form of entertainment that is sweeping the country and proving to be popular among audiences.

A popular veteran entertainer comes on stage and chats with his or her fans about his or her life. Sounds pretty simple and basic. And it is. And it works.

We caught William Shatner at Foxwoods recently, where he filled the Fox Theatre, holding our attention for two hours with stories about his life and career. He was funny, interesting, personal and at times poignant. He filled in some verbal gaps with brief slides and videos of his personal life, his three years as Captain Kirk on “Star Trek,” his recent project into the recording industry, his early movies, plays and TV series. He told stories about bloopers he had made and famous people he had worked with. If you were a fan, and why else would you be there, it was a fun evening.

While it is not entirely new, Carol Burnett has been doing it successfully, with much of her act simply answering questions from the audience. And much of Seinfeld’s stand-up act is actually observations and experiences from his life.

It will be interesting to see how Sophia Loren presents herself when she takes the stage at Foxwoods on March 18 at 8 p.m. Loren has led a fascinating life, and many people surely will want to hear about her experiences and also get a close-up look at the aging star, surely one of the most beautiful women to ever appear on the big screen.

Tickets for her performance range from $85 and $130 for front row seats.

Foxwoods also has Tracy Morgan on March 19. The comedian who was seriously injured in a collision with a big truck and has recently appeared on many talk shows and “Saturday Night Live” is sure to talk about his recent accident and amazing recovery.

It will be interesting to see if the trend continues and who will jump on the bandwagon. Stay tuned.
