Newport Playhouse announces local auditions for ‘Brighton Beach Memoirs’

Newport Playhouse & Cabaret Restaurant announces local auditions for their production of “Brighton Beach Memoirs” and their Cabaret. Auditions for both shows will be held on Sept. 24 starting at 6 p.m. The play and cabaret run Oct. 30 through Nov. 23.

Needed for “Brighton Beach Memoirs” are two females 18-early twenties, two females 30s-40s and one 40ish male. These are paid positions.

Needed for their Cabaret are men and women 18 years and older with great personalities and good singing voices for the cabaret. Bring music for one ballad and one upbeat song; be prepared to sing 16 bars of each. Pianist will be available to accompany. No CDs or a cappella. This is a paid position.

In “Brighton Beach Memoirs,” Eugene, a teen who lives with his family in a crowded, lower middle- class Brooklyn apartment, dreams of baseball and girls. But his life consists of his formidable mother, overworked father, worldly older brother Stanley, his widowed Aunt Blanche and her two young (but rapidly aging) daughters and Grandpa – whipping up a recipe for hilarity served up Neil Simon style.
