No suspect in alleged abduction attempt

Warwick Police have confirmed that they have asked their Patrol Division to keep an eye out for a silver mini-van whose driver allegedly tried to talk a 13-year-old Warwick boy into entering his vehicle last Friday. Police did not release the name of the boy or his mother, but other accounts quote the mother as saying her 13-year-old son was asked to help a man look for his cat and was then offered candy by a man in his 30s with a reddish beard around 5:30 p.m. on Friday.

According to an account citing the boy’s mother on Turn to 10 News, the boy was with two friends when he was approached in City Park. Police have said no more about the incident other than that they will be on the alert for a van fitting the description the boy is said to have given his mother. A phone call to the boy’s mother from the Beacon to verify the various reports was unreturned as of yesterday afternoon.
