Congressman Jim Langevin (D-RI) has given Bishop Hendricken High School senior James Manni a principal nomination to the United States Military Academy in West Point, N.Y. Manni, the son of James and Tracey Manni of South Kingstown, is a student leader at Bishop Hendricken, serving as vice president of his class for three years and as founder and president of the student activities club. An all-state swimmer, Manni captained the varsity swim team and volunteered as a coach for the Special Olympics of Rhode Island. He also started a Water Polo Club at Hendricken and serves as its captain. Since the seventh grade, Manni has run “The Mitten Project,” a community service initiative he started that distributes hats and mittens to Rhode Islanders in need. Manni is a member of the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary and was the state’s only attendee at the U.S. Military Academy’s Summer Leader Experience.
