North Kingstown edges Continental for Red Andrews title

In the final iteration of the storied Red Andrews Little League tournament, fans were treated to a titillating finale, as North Kingstown edged Warwick Continental, 5-3, to capture its first Red Andrews championship.

The game was tight from the very beginning, with Warwick drawing first blood courtesy of a booming triple by Nate Dunn and an RBI double by Mike Dicomitis.

North Kingstown responded in kind in the top of the second, securing a run on a pair of hits to knot the score at one.

The tie would not last long, however, as with one out in the bottom of the second Warwick’s Caden Allen launched a solo home run to right center – the first of his little league career – to give Warwick what would be its last lead of the game.

Elated by Allen’s heroics, Warwick buckled down to retire the side in order in the top of third and seemed to be riding a wave of momentum that would carry it all the way to the championship.

Unfortunately, that wave would come crashing down all too quickly.

The top of the fourth would spell doom for Warwick, as the North Kingstown offense erupted for three runs to take a commanding 4-2 lead.

Warwick would mount rallies in the bottom of the fifth, plating a run, but was unable to fully close the gap. In the end, Warwick went down in order in the sixth to cede the championship to North Kingstown.
