Not just a guy’s game

Even gray and rainy days, although there haven’t been to many of those this summer, are fun at the Warwick Boys and Girls Club summer camp operating from the Masonic Temple grounds off Long Street. Between sprinkles yesterday kids either gathered at the pavilion for crafts, swam in the pool (they were wet anyway) or played tennis baseball. That’s a tennis ball in place of a hardball. Here camp director Nicole Spirito lands on home plate. “Boys aren’t the only ones who can hit the ball far,” she said. It is a message that resonated with many of the kids. The camp has 80 campers and is run by 17 counselors and 19 counselors in training. And when there is a downpour, the campers relocate to the Oakland Beach Boys and Girls Club.
