Number 8 lives forever

It has been five years since the death of Andrew J. Gauthier, the Toll Gate hockey player whose jersey number captures his enduring memory. He also lives on through annual scholarships made possible by a hockey festival in his name and other fundraising events. On Sunday, four $1,000 scholarships were presented at the Andrew J. Gauthier Park at Toll Gate High to Warwick student athletes. Teachers and high school principals nominate recipients. Flanking this year’s recipients are Andrew’s parents, Robert and Kathy Gauthier. The students from left are: Bryan O’Mara from Vets, who will attend CCRI and transfer to URI; R.J. Mann from Toll Gate, who will attend Massachusetts College; Danielle Leblanc of Pilgrim, who will attend RIC; and Ian Giuttari of Pilgrim, who will attend URI. (Warwick Beacon photo)
