Ocean State Job Lot, a closeout retailer with 115 stores in New England, New York and New Jersey, is now accepting two forms of mobile payments at the register, in addition to the traditional methods already accepted (cash, check, credit card, debit card, and SNAP EBT card).
Shoppers can now opt to pay for purchases via Apple Pay and Google Wallet technology using their smartphones upon checkout. The technology is available chain-wide at all Job Lot stores throughout the region.
With these payment options, we have made it more convenient and secure for our customers to pay for their merchandise, John D. Conforti, chief financial officer of Ocean State Job Lot said in a statement. Instead of a person having to use their actual credit or debit card, these mobile options use a unique device account number and encryption to process payment. Because these numbers are not visible on their personal mobile devices, our customers can enjoy an additional layer of privacy and security with their transactions. Moreover, it reduces the time spent at checkout greatly enhancing their shopping experience. The days of searching through ones wallet to make a purchase could soon become a thing of the past.
Apple Pay works with most major credit and debit cards from the top U.S. banks and is compatible with iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus, iPad and Apple Watch without even opening an app thanks to Near Field Communication technology. To pay, customers hold their device near the contactless reader installed at each register while holding their finger on the Touch ID symbol on their screen (see www.apple.com/apple-pay for a video demonstration or more information). Google Wallet is an app available to anyone in the U.S with a Gmail address and works with any debit or credit card on Android 2.3 and iOS 6 systems or higher. Shoppers simply Tap and Pay with their Android phone using the reader installed at each register, or can swipe using a Google Wallet card (visit www.google.com/wallet for a demonstration video or more information).
