Ocean State Libraries offers new eBook experience

Posted

Ocean State Libraries kicked off National Library Week by expanding its services at the library and beyond.

The new OverDrive Media Station increases public libraries’ services with a discovery tool that allows users to browse and sample the library’s digital collection of eBooks, audiobooks, music and video from an interactive touchscreen monitor. Users can send any title they discover at the OverDrive Media Station to their favorite device for checkout using a QR code, email or text message.

“The new OverDrive Media Stations will be traveling around the state during the next year to 14 different libraries, including North Kingstown, Pawtucket, Cranston, Barrington, Jamestown and Westerly. We’re looking forward to showcasing our eBook service to many people who are not aware that we offer digital content for download,” said Lisa Sallee, assistant director for Ocean State Libraries.

In addition to the traveling media stations, a touch-screen kiosk will be located in the lobby of the Rhode Island Department of Administration (Powers Building) across from the State House in Providence. Ocean State Libraries has purchased a special stand made of aircraft-grade aluminum in order to house and protect the monitor.

Digital titles are available anytime, anywhere by visiting ezone.oslri.net or by downloading the free OverDrive app. Users may browse the library’s website, borrow titles with a valid library card, and enjoy on all major computers and mobile devices, including iPhone, iPad, Nook, Android phones and tablets, and Kindle. eBooks can be read immediately on any device with an Internet browser and all titles will automatically expire at the end of the lending period.

Experience the interactive OverDrive Media Station at a library near you or at the Rhode Island Department of Administration, One Capitol Hill, Providence.

Ocean State Libraries is a partnership of all public libraries in Rhode Island, collaborating to bring Rhode Islanders a shared collection, 24-7 eBook access, and the resources and technology to enrich lives, open minds and bridge the digital divide for all.
