Ocean State Theatre Co. announces upcoming Warwick season

Ocean State Theatre Company (OSTC), the producing entity at Theatre-by-the-Sea in Matunuck, announced less than a month ago that they will be renovating and opening a theater at the former Verizon headquarters on Jefferson Blvd. Yesterday, the theater announced their inaugural season at the new space. With renovations set to be completed by October, OSTC hopes to stage two holiday shows for the theater’s grand opening in December.

Following their holiday shows, OSTC will present Neil Simon’s comedic play, “Fools,” Jan. 23 to Feb. 10; the musical “Rent,” Feb. 22 to March 17; David Mamet’s “Race,” March 27 to April 14, and “The King and I,” April 24 to May 19.

Previews for all productions are scheduled for Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. and Thursday at 2 and 7:30 p.m. Opening weekend performances will be held on Friday at 7:30 p.m., Saturday at 2 and 7:30 p.m. and Sunday at 2 and 7:30 p.m. All other performances will be held Tuesday through Saturday evenings at 7:30 p.m., as well as Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays at 2 p.m. The theatre is located at 1245 Jefferson Blvd., Warwick. Preview performances will be $30 for plays and $39 for musicals. All other performances will be $30 to $39 for plays and $39 to $54 for musicals. Discount rates for groups of 20 or more will also be available.

Current Theatre-by-the-Sea subscribers will be given priority for the new theater’s subscriptions.

“During the past five years, our subscribers have shown their continued support for OSTC by purchasing tickets for our productions at Theatre-by-the-Sea,” said Aimee Turner, OSTC’s producing artistic director, in a press release. “As a way of thanking our subscribers, we are extending an invitation to them to be the first patrons to purchase tickets for our new venture.”

Season ticket subscriptions are on sale to current subscribers at the box office Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m.-4 p.m., online anytime at www.OceanStateTheatre.org and via telephone during normal box office hours by calling 782-TKTS (8587). The box office will also be open one hour prior to every performance.

Subscriptions will be available to the general public on July 9, with single tickets for the inaugural season going on sale Oct. 1. The theater notes that the season is subject to change.
