Ocean State Theatre Company announces 2015 summer season

Ocean State Theatre Company (OSTC), currently celebrating its third season in its new state-of-the-art theatre in Warwick, is thrilled to announce their 2015 Summer Season – Richard Dresser’s Rounding Third, a comedy about America’s favorite pastime, and the Tony Award-winning classic American musical, Gypsy.

“When considering what shows to present this summer, I kept coming back to the baseball comedy, Rounding Third. It is a warmly written, hilarious play, which I’ve wanted to do for a while now, about two little league coaches. Sort of The Odd Couple of Little League. And since baseball is rather beloved in this part of the country, well, I think it’s the perfect show to kick off the summer. Deciding on a musical wasn’t too difficult either. Our audiences really seem to enjoy great musical theatre and the popular Broadway hit Gypsy is considered by many to be the perfect musical!”

Rounding Third: Don is the tough, blue-collar, win-at-all-costs coach whose son is the star pitcher. Michael is a newcomer corporate-exec who agrees to be Don’s assistant to be closer to his son, who’s never played baseball before. Michael believes that the job of the coaches is to shield the kids from the intense pressure of competition while making sure everyone has a good time. Don thinks a coach should be teaching the kids how to win. Over the course of exhilarating victories, heartbreaking defeats, and interminable rain-outs, the two men battle over how to lead the team.

Based loosely on the 1957 memoirs of Gypsy Rose Lee, this show focuses on her mother, Rose, and the dreams and efforts of Rose to raise two daughters to perform onstage and become ”stars” while casting an affectionate eye on the hardships of the show business life. Thought by some to be the perfect musical, songs include “Let Me Entertain You,” “Some People,” “You’ll Never Get Away from Me,” “If Momma Was Married,” “All I Need Is the Girl,” “Everything’s Coming Up Roses,” “You Gotta Get A Gimmick” and “Together Wherever We Go.”

Rounding Third will be presented from June 3-21. Previews are scheduled for Wednesday, June 3 at 7:30 p.m. and Thursday, June 4 at 2 and 7:30 p.m. All other performances will be held Tuesday (except 6/9), Wednesday, Thursday (except 6/11), Friday and Saturday evenings at 7:30 p.m. and Sundays at 2 p.m. Special Sunday evening performance on Sunday, June 14 at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are $30 for preview performances and $34-$49 for all other performances. $25 “Rush” tickets are available on a limited basis one hour prior to curtain on the day of the performance.

Previews are scheduled for Wednesday, July 8 at 7:30 p.m. and Thursday, July 9 at 2 and 7:30 p.m. All other performances will be held Tuesday (except 7/14 & 7/28), Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings at 7:30 p.m., with matinees on Saturdays (except 7/11 & 7/25) and Sundays at 2 p.m. Tickets are $39 for preview performances and $39-$54 for all other performances. $30 “Rush” tickets are available on a limited basis one hour prior to curtain on the day of the performance.
