Ocean State Theatre Company’s ‘Into the Woods’ extended through May 23

Ocean State Theatre Company (OSTC), currently celebrating its third season in its theatre in Warwick, is pleased to announce that due to popular demand, the run of the enchanting musical “Into the Woods,” the closing production of the 2014-15 season, has been extended through May 23.

“When we chose to include ‘Into the Woods’ this season, we had no idea how popular it would be,” said Producing Artistic Director Amiee Turner. “It seems clear that the unprecedented popularity of the Disney film, which had the best box office opening ever for a Broadway-inspired movie musical, has had a positive effect on our ticket sales. Successful film adaptations of musicals have typically led to increased tickets sales for their Broadway counterparts, so it isn’t that far-fetched to think it could happen in Rhode Island.”

Stephen Sondheim’s popular Tony Award-winning musical “Into the Woods” brings together everyone’s favorite storybook characters for a timeless, grown-up musical. This epic fairytale follows a Baker and his wife who wish to have a child, Cinderella who wishes to attend the King’s Festival, and Jack, who wishes his cow would give milk. When the Baker and his wife learn that they cannot have a child because of a witch’s curse, the two set off on a journey to break the curse. Everyone’s wish is granted, but the consequences of their actions return to haunt them later. From storybook to stage to screen to OST, this is Sondheim at his most charming.
