Only six years ago An Evening with Authors was hosted in Robin Kall’s living room, but “reader by reader” the event has grown and will now be held at the Ocean State Theater.

Kall hosts the popular radio show, “Reading with Robin,” which is on AM 790 and I Heart Radio. She began the show to share her love of reading as well as connecting with others through literature, and an Evening with Authors is an extension of that passion. Through this event, Kall is also able to fundraise for the American Cancer Society’s Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk.

“Everyone knows someone who has been affected by breast cancer,” Kall said. “It’s a cause we can all stand behind.”

Kall considers the event a “live” version of her radio show where she will interview authors asking “atypical questions” before the authors are available for book signings and a Q&A.

“I have had an amazing lineup of authors for this event, and this year is no different,” Kall said.

Kall only hosts authors she is excited about and tries to pair them with other like authors who will “play off” one another well.

The three authors for this year’s event are Christina Baker Kline, Marisa de los Santos and Ted Thompson. The books the event will focus on are Baker Kline’s Orphan Train, de los Santos’ The Precious One and Ted Thompson’s The Land of Steady Habits.

Kall stressed that the event is not a “book club” and attendees should not stress about whether or not they have read the books or even know the authors.

Although many book clubs have gone together as a group for the event, Kall said individuals are welcome and more than likely to make a friend.

“It’s a warm and cozy night. It’s a gracious and welcoming crowd. This event brings together people who love reading,” Kall said. “Friends and even whole book clubs are made at these events.”

Even for those who aren’t readers Kall says An Evening with Authors is still a good time because the conversation itself will be exciting and fun.

She said, “The reading community is just so amazing it’s a fun night for a good cause.”

The 6th Annual Evening with Authors will be Wednesday, October 7, with registration at 6:30 p.m. and the show beginning at 7:30 p.m. at the Ocean State Theater, 1245 Jefferson Blvd. The space can fit approximately 400 people and Kall said almost half of the space has been purchased already.

Tickets are $35 per person and all net profits and book sales will benefit the American Cancer Society’s Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk. For more information or to purchase tickets for the event visit www.readingwithrobin.com.
