Posted

A Cranston police officer was uninjured after being struck by a vehicle outside a local club early Saturday morning, according to police, while the driver was taken into custody in Warwick shortly after the incident.

Police say 27-year-old Ralph Delullo of 20 Hanley Farm Road in Warren is charged with one count of felony assault with a dangerous weapon.

The incident occurred at approximately midnight, when Officers Matthew Davis and Salvador Sanchez – who were working on a special security detail at Mardi Gras Multi Club on Oaklawn Avenue – attempted to stop Delullo from leaving the scene after watching him enter his vehicle. The officers had reportedly assisted staff at the club with evicting Delullo from the club shortly before they observed him entering the vehicle.

According to police, Delullo sped off as the officers approached, and Sanchez was struck and tossed over the vehicle's hood before landing in the roadway.

Delullo then reportedly fled without stopping, and was later located by Warwick police on the Airport Connector in their city.
