David C. Olsen, treasurer of the city of Warwick, was elected to the Executive Board of the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) of the United States and Canada at the association’s annual business meeting in Chicago, Ill., on June 12. The business meeting was held in conjunction with the association’s 106th annual conference. Olsen was elected to serve a three-year term on the 17-member executive board of GFOA beginning immediately.
Olsen has been a member of GFOA for 15 years, coinciding with his tenure as Warwick City Treasurer. For the past six years, he has served as a member of GFOA’s Committee on Treasury and Investment Management.
With his election to the GFOA Executive Board, he serves as the only board member from New England and the state of Rhode Island. Olsen holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Barrington College and completed his accounting course work at the Bryant University School of Accounting. He is a native Rhode Islander who has worked for the city of Warwick since 1993.
GFOA is a professional association of state/provincial and local finance officers in the United States and Canada, and has served the public finance profession since 1906. GFOA members are dedicated to the sound management of government financial resources. GFOA has a current membership of 17,400 finance professionals united to enhance and promote the professional management of governmental financial services by identifying, developing and advancing fiscal policies, strategies and practices for the public benefit.
