The historic Park Theatre, which recently released its schedule of shows for the 2012-2013 season, is making a notable addition to the already impressive lineup. On Friday, Sept. 28, Rhode Islanders will be treated to a veritable feast of music by two great bands in one single night – The Robert Cray Band and the Kenny Wayne Shepherd Band. Tickets are on sale now.
Considered one of the greatest guitar players of his generation, Robert Cray is a five-time Grammy Award winner who has performed alongside blues titans B.B. King and Buddy Guy while also touring extensively with music legend Eric Clapton. Throughout his career, which includes recent induction into the Blues Hall of Fame, Cray has been taking audiences on an epic musical journey, breaking through the pop ceiling with his blues-edged trademark sound, distinct playing style and daring innovations.
Still barely in his 30s, Louisiana-born Kenny Wayne Shepherd has been selling millions of albums and generating Top 10 singles, shining a light on the rich blues of the past and forging ahead with his own modern twist on a classic sound, since his teens. Perhaps best known for his number one hit “Blue on Black” that spent 17 consecutive weeks atop the Rock Charts, Shepherd has been nominated for five Grammy Awards and won two Billboard Music Awards.
“One of the most exciting things about our ability to book the Robert Cray Band and Kenny Wayne Shepherd Show is the fact that Rhode Island music-lovers will be able to enjoy a spectacular concert in a very intimate setting,” said Piyush Patel, owner of the Park Theatre. “I’m extremely proud of the direction that our venue is heading by securing world-class performances and encourage everyone to join us for a show and see for themselves.”
The performance of the Robert Cray Band and Kenny Wayne Shepherd is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 28. Tickets may be purchased through the theatre’s secure website, www.ParkTheatreRI.com, or by calling the Box Office at 467-7275. The Park Theatre is located at 848 Park Ave., Cranston.
