Orlando shooting, ISIS or mental illness?

To the Editor:

A horrible hate crime has shaken us Americans once again. I wish to remind people, that the crime was targeted against the gay community. Politicians are having a field day blaming ISIS, and spreading more hate to American Muslims. I hope Americans are intelligent enough to see that the violence in our country, is from are own. Fear is breeding this. Young people who are isolated, and alone, and glued to their computers are turning to violence, and hate.

Omar Mateen was a troubled young man. It has been said he was violent, and voiced his disapproval of the gay community. I am sure he knew he would die in this shooting, so he went back to his roots, and pledged to the most hateful group of Muslim ISIS. Not every Muslim is a jihadist.

We need to look at mental illness more seriously. The average person who hates a certain group of people, don’t all pick up guns and start shooting. All of the shootings that have taken part in America have been done by someone with depression, violent background, or some kind of instability.

And is America any better than the rest of the world when it comes to hate? Hell, we still have the KKK in existence. Again a group who feels they are superior to others. Florida would not even let a gay person adopt a baby until 2015, nor would they let any gay man who had not abstained from sex for a year donate blood for the shooting victims. Do people know blood can be tested for HIV, and you can be HIV positive after a year without sex.

I feel we should stop being prejudice against everyone, race, sexual preference, religion, ect. It is so easy to always blame one group of people. Let love reign over hate, and let us not become separate from each other, but except differences in each of us. Its time to tune out these politicians point if views to blame everything on one group of people, and start looking at some mental health issues. It’s time to be kind, loving, and more understanding of each other.

America, we need not to blame, but to reach out to our brothers and sisters whose souls are troubled, and fearful.

Much love to all the people who were involved in this awful shooting. Know that people everywhere are praying for you, and sending you love and light.

Ms. Taylor: Three points. First, you are correct in observing that every Muslim is not a jihadist. However, it would appear that every jihadist is, in fact, a Muslim.

Second is it your position that gay men should be prohibited from donating blood indefinitely, vs.just one year? If so, you are expressing a view that is medically responsible rather than a function "hate"'.

Finally, while love and prayers are certainly admirable, you need to recognize that there is a growing collection of people in this country whose religious-based life's Mission is to kill you and every member of your family. We know who they are, and they are not Catholic nuns or Buddhist monks.
