Our nation’s confusion

Posted

To the Editor:

We the People, of this great nation, were taught from an early age that our country was founded on the Law of God. Truth was the guiding principle to govern and live under, along with God’s moral code.

In today’s world, the 21st century, our high courts have recognized that Truth: the Truth that we will not be guided by Truth.

The modern society has decreed that human life was expendable, sexual intimacy mere sport, and suffering a horror. Goodness could be served from godliness; purity is actually prudery, love a passing sentiment and righteousness bigotry.

Today’s pagan culture has taken over and pushed our Founding Fathers’ beliefs and truths out the door. When there is no Truth, all things are permissible. If we don’t respect life and allow abortion not to be wrong – nothing is wrong!

I feel so sad for our children’s and grandchildren’s future. If we continue to reject God, and choose vice over virtue, our country’s future will be doomed.

“We the People” must lead by virtue and example if we are to counteract the “madness of the day.”

Our country was settled by people from Western Europe who were seeking religious freedom. They came from nations where the government determined what religion a person should practice. These early settlers believed in the Laws of Nature and Nature’s God and that all Men are created equal and that these Men are endowed by their Creator with the rights of Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness. The First Amendment of the Constitution developed by our Founding Fathers guarantees the Free Exercise of Religion. Amendments to the Constitution have to receive a two-thirds vote by the members of the House of Representatives and the Senate followed by a three-fourths vote of the 50 states. The Founding Fathers never envisioned that the Supreme Court of the United States could make changes in the United States Constitution. If changes were warranted, these changes would have to be voted on by the people of the United States.

Unless you were black. Then the founding fathers granted you 3/5 equality. If they had the foresight to see to the Shores of Tripoli, then they would have barred Muslims. As god intended.

Unfortunately, most whites in the 18th century believed that primitive tribal Africans were not their equals. In addition, most 18th century white men did not consider that white women were their equals. The Founding Fathers did create the best form of government in the in the 18th century. The Founding Fathers were not evil people because they did not create a perfect government. The majority of American citizens in the 19th century did not believe in slavery. If the American people were given the chance to vote on an amendment to the Constitution abolishing slavery in the 1850’s, I believe that it would have passed and avoided the Civil War.

Sorry Ken B, you should read your precious constitution to see how amendments are added.

In the Constitution, state legislatures vote to approve amendments to the Constitution. I said “IF” the people of each state were given the chance to vote, slavery would have been abolished. Elected officials, for political reasons, do not always vote their conscience. The American people should be allowed to determine if changes to the Constitution should be made.

Maybe we should amend the Constitution to change amending the Constitution.

As a democratic Socialist-with deep roots in Catholic social philosophy- I can empathize with this conservative Christian feeling that there is rampant moral disorder in this capitalist society- and the feeling that everything sane and good in THE FAITH is being mocked, indeed religious freedom is being attacked. The New Atheists do nor want a dialogue with self-respecting people of faith. They want to quarantine you. And that is NOT separation of church and state. How can any thoughtful person not see that the Gospel of Jesus is as " subversive " to this culture of narcissism as any socialist manifesto ?

Real humanism and the Judeo-Christian religious tradition have a common ground. And neither justifies rampant Islamophobia.

By the way, I miss that Ten Commandments monument removed by political correctness- in -action from Roger Williams Park.

Sorry Imam, the Islamic State is several thousand miles east of here. This is the United States and this place is ruled by the laws of man.

Take your sharia law and peddle it to some suckers somewhere else.

    I bless America!
