Our nation’s lost soul

To the Editor:

Recently I read where Time magazine named Pope Francis its “Person of the Year” in 2013. In some ways, you would think that’s a great honor. But before one gets excited, perhaps it would be good to first note the “runners-up” who were also considered for the award.

Listen to this for your outrageous consideration! The Pope beat out NSA leaker Edward Snowden for “distinction” – besides Snowden, Time nominated its other finalists down to gay rights activist Edith Windsor, U.S. Senator Ted Cruz of Texas and “imagine,” Syrian President Bashar Assad!

Can you believe it? Besides Pope Francis, these are the “notable” people of 2013 of our world? These are the people we hold up as our “role models?” Our heroes? Our best? This world and our nation are in a sad situation, wouldn’t you say? I’d say our nation has lost its soul! God help us!

Richard...people are constantly missing the magazines point. It isn't the best person of the year, it's one that has made the most significant impact, good or bad. I believe one year Hitler was on the cover.
