A Massachusetts man is facing drug charges after a motor vehicle stop on Route 95 in Cranston yielded more than 1,000 pills of the prescription painkiller oxycodone, according to Rhode Island State Police.

Christopher S. Legrand, 28, of 872 Centre St. in Brockton, is charged with possession with intent to deliver a Schedule II controlled substance and driving while in possession of a controlled substance. He was also issued a traffic citation for a lane violation.

Legrand was arraigned and ordered held without bail at the ACI pending a May 29 bail review hearing.

According to police, the vehicle in question was stopped on May 22 after troopers observed it swerving while traveling north on the highway. While speaking with the operator, troopers are said to have detected the odor of burnt marijuana coming from inside the vehicle.

A subsequent search led to the discovery of 1,017 pills in the glove compartment.
