Warwick Public Library will showcase what it has to offer the older crowd at “Over 60 Thursday: A Day of Activities for Seniors” on May 21.

At 10 a.m. join crafting-queen Bette Maioli in the Idea Studio to make a Shabby-Chic Fabric Flower Pin. This event is limited to 20 participants. Register online at warwicklibrary.org or call 739-5440, x4.

Also at 10 a.m., learn how the mystery genre developed from magazine serials in the 1800s to today’s best-selling thrillers at The History of the Mystery by librarian Mary Anne Quinn.

A performance by the teens of the Toll Gate Jazz Ensemble and Jazz Chorale will be held at 11:30 and then at 1 p.m., Warwick Police Officer Steve Lombardi will speak about how to protect yourself and your property from scam artists.

At 2 p.m., explore healthy eating with Melissa Holmes, SNAP-Ed Nutrition Education, University of Rhode Island. Also at 2, The Theory of Everything (2014) about the life of scientist Stephen Hawking will be shown on the library’s big screen.

Throughout the day beginning at 10 a.m. City Nurse Pat Seltzer will conduct barometric screenings, including a blood pressure check.

Also during the day, staff from Pilgrim Senior Center and Westbay Community Action will be in attendance to answer questions about health, volunteer opportunities, and city and social services.

And for those having difficulty keeping pace with technology personnel will be at the Idea Studio from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. to assist people with eReaders, tablets, laptops, cameras, or any other tech that’s giving you guff.

Transportation will be available between Pilgrim Senior Center and the library. Bring a bag lunch if you’re planning to stay for the day.

For more information, call 739-5440, x5. The library is located at 600 Sandy Lane. This event is free and open to all.
