The Warwick PAL Patriots Junior Pee Wee team captured the Division 2 state championship with a 40-12 victory over North Kingstown on Sunday, Nov. 4.
The high-powered Warwick offense exploded on the Jaguars for seven plays of 20 yards or more. Team captains Josh Reid and Brett Babcock each had a run of 25 yards, while Ethan Laramee had three such runs to go along with a three-touchdown day. The offensive fireworks were highlighted by touchdown runs of 78 and 42 yards by Eric Watts.
Making his first start quarterback, Seeley Thao directed the action and scored a touchdown himself on a designed keeper. Defensively, Warwick recovered from a slow start that saw them down 12-7 just before halftime. Middle linebacker and team captain Mike Borges rallied the defense and held North Kingstown to one first down for the entire second half.
The win completed a perfect 11-0 season. The team will now head to Attleboro, Mass. for the first round of the Pop Warner New England Regional.
