The Warwick Pal Junior PeeWee Patriots are still rolling.
Faced with its toughest opponent to date, Warwick responded with a 14-0 victory over the New Fairfield Connecticut Falcons this past weekend.
A complete team effort was needed against New Fairfield, one of Connecticut’s best teams. New Fairfield came in undefeated and hadn’t allowed any points on the young season.
That all changed Sunday when just before halftime Warwick hit paydirt on a 5-yard power run by Eric Watts, behind the lead blocking of fellow team captains Brett Babcock and Josh Reid. The scoring drive was a true combined team effort as Warwick ran two entirely different offensive units of eleven players on and off the field four times during the 16 play touchdown drive.
The Warwick defense only had to take the field for 15 plays in the entire second half as the offense controlled the ball with a power and counter run attack. The Warwick defensive line was led by Jarion Soto, Lucas Modestil and John Colitz. With the middle clogged, defensive ends Andrew Soares and James Gonzalves ripped into ball carriers while they got help from their friends Ethan Pierce, Zack Greene and Billy Brogno at the linebacker and secondary level to throttle the Falcon offense.
Next up for the 3-0 Patriots is the Coventry Rams at Pilgrim high school on Sunday.
