(Painful to watch caper movie)

There’s a lot of pain and little to gain sitting through this awful caper movie that is supposedly based on a true story.

Mark Wahlberg, Dwayne Johnson and Anthony Mackie play three dumb body builders who kidnap a rich, obnoxious guy (Tony Shalhoub) and clean him out of all his money and possessions. Johnson plays a born-again ex-con who is pushed to his limits (“I don’t want to hurt nobody”) by the ruthless Danny (Wahlberg). Adrian (Mackie) needs money to solve a sexual problem. The three of them kidnap the wealthy Victor Kershaw (Shalhoub), torturing him beyond belief. When he finally escapes after losing all his money, the police don’t believe his story. He hires a retired private investigator (Ed Harris), who eventually tracks the three stooges down.

The movie plods along for over two hours and gets more violent as it goes. The dark comedy isn’t all that dark, and it certainly isn’t very funny. Some of the scenes are shot in slow motion, and Wahlberg’s voiceover attempts to move the plot along.

Rated a big R, with profanity, violence, sex, bathroom humor, drug use, nudity and blood and body parts strewn all over the place.
