Nine Bishop Hendricken High School students and teacher Michael Curran left by train for Washington last Wednesday to see be a part of Pope Francis’ visit to the nation’s capital. The school was provided 10 tickets for the papal visit through the office of Senator Sheldon Whitehouse. As more than 50 boys wanted to participate, a raffle was held to decide who would go. Curran said Monday that they got to see the pope in person as he appeared before the crowd to give a blessing. Staking out a place had the group up by 3:30 a.m. so as to be at the National Mall by 5:30. Curran said he plans to use the pope’s speech to Congress as part of his class and how what the pontiff said “applies to lives beyond the classroom.” Those who made the trip – holding a flag from the Vatican – were Jackson Brewster, William Hindinger, Ryan Miech, Matthew Forcino, Jordan Edwards, John Duffy, Crispin Ferris, Maxwell Zweiner, Connor Levine and Michael Curran.
