Eleven 6th grade students from the Warwick Schools ALAP program attended the History Day in Rhode Island state competition at Providence College on April 6. Francesca Maroni from E.T. Wyman ALAP won 1st place for her individual performance, “The Tragic Fire of 1911” and Jenna Carmichael from John Wickes ALAP won 2nd place for her individual performance, “Newsboy Strike of 1899: The Strike That Shook New York” at the state competition. Both students will be competing at the national level in Washington, D.C. June 9-13. Their teacher, Lissa Scarpellino, was awarded the Patricia S. Behring Teacher of the Year Award.
