The Pilgrim girls’ lacrosse team got its Division III title chase off to a solid start in the quarterfinal round of the playoffs on Thursday.

The third-seeded Pats dominated No. 6 Scituate, winning 21-4 at home. They led 14-2 at halftime and added seven more goals in the second half to cruise to the victory. Scituate was 3-9 during the regular season, while Pilgrim was 8-3.

The Pats were led by Haley McCusker and Michaela Giuttari, each of whom had five goals and two assists. Cara Beneduce had four goals and two assists and Betsy Heidel had three goals and an assist, while Sophie DeLuca had two goals, Erica Hammond had a goal and an assist, Amibeth Marks had a goal and an assist and Jennifer King had an assist. In goal, Kayleen Murphy had to only make one save.

Pilgrim was expected to win that game, though. Now, it’ll get harder, as the Pats will move on to the D-III semifinals and have to hit the road in the process. They will travel to Woonsocket to play No. 2 seed Mount St. Charles today, with the game time still to be determined. A berth in the championship game is on the line.

Mount, which went 9-3 and won the D-III-North crown during the regular season, defeated seventh-seeded Burrillville/North Smithfield 12-5 in the quarterfinals.

Pilgrim beat Mount 23-15 in an April meeting.

Top-seeded Narragansett and No. 4 seed Chariho will play in the other semifinal, with the finals to be played on Saturday at 1 p.m. at Brown University.
