Pats finish second at Bayha meet; TG fourth

The girls’ indoor track division championships were held on Tuesday at the Providence Career and Technical Academy for the Bayha and Dwyer Divisions, with all three Warwick schools taking part.

Pilgrim was the city’s best finisher, taking second place in the Bayha Division with 68 points, behind only champion North Kingstown’s 105. Toll Gate came in fourth in the same division with 60 points.

In the Dwyer Division, Vets finished ninth with 14 points. Mount St. Charles won the meet with 92 points.

The Pats had two first-place finishers. Melanie Brunelle won the high jump with a leap of 4 feet, 10 inches, while Rebecca O’Donnell won the long jump with a leap of 16 feet, 10.5 inches. Brunelle also came in third in the long jump and fourth in the 55 hurdles.

Maddison Caron took second in the weight throw and fourth in the shot put, while Danika Wayss grabbed second in the 1000 and third in the 1500

Nicole Morales finished fifth in the 55, and Claudia DeMello was fifth in the 55 hurdles. Pilgrim also took third in the 4x200 relay and fifth in the 4x400.

Toll Gate’s top performer was Ani Armenakyan, who won the shot put with a throw of 33 feet, 2.75 inches.

Erika Pena was also a key contributor, taking second in the long jump and the 55 hurdles.

Courtney Jacobsen added a third in the weight throw and Heather Allstrom took third in the 300. Nora Hall was fourth in the 600, Jess Cawley was sixth in the 1500 and Annemarie Martella was sixth in the 55. Toll Gate’s relays took second in the 4x4 and fourth in the 4x2 and 4x8

Vets was paced by its throwers. Bria McAloon came in fourth, while Michelle Spremulli and Kim Buchanan tied for fifth in the weight throw. In the shot put, Spremulli took sixth.

Also scoring for Vets was Carlie McPherson in fourth in the 3000 and the 4x4 relay team, which took fifth.

The class meets will be held this Saturday at the PCTA, while the state meet is scheduled for Feb. 15.
