The Pilgrim girls track and field team showcased several stellar performances with a number of top finishers in Saturday’s Rhody Classic held at University of Rhode Island’s Mackal track.

The Patriots’ senior tandem of Maddison Caron and Rebecca O’Donnell started the success. Caron placed fourth (12.90 meters) in the weight throw event and 10th (9.55 meters) in the shot put competition. O’Donnell finished third (4.91 meters) in the long jump. Sophomore Kayda Phillip posted 15th (4.17 meters) in the same event.

Second-year competitors Danika Wayss, Nicole Morales and Madison Stanley delivered strong performances on the track. Wayss finished sixth (5:32.60) in the 1600-meter run, Morales placed 18th (45.32 seconds) in the 300-meter dash and Stanley finished 28th (45.87 seconds) in that same event.

The only junior to place in the finals was Melanie Brunelle. She finished seventh (9.49 seconds) in the 55-meter hurdles and seventh (1.47 meters) in the high jump.

Pilgrim’s outstanding achievements didn’t come to a halt there. It continued to the 4x200-meter relay where the Pats finished eighth.

Pilgrim will next travel to Providence Career and Technical Academy on Wednesday, January 22nd at 5:30 p.m. (Warwick Beacon photos by Jerry Silberman / risportsphoto.com)
