Pedestrian critical after being hit by car

Warwick Police reported an accident between a car and pedestrian near 2411 Post Road at around 10 p.m. on May 1. A vehicle operated by a 31-year-old male from Warwick struck the pedestrian, a 51-year old man. The pedestrian was transported to Rhode Island Hospital and was listed in critical condition.

Preliminary investigation disclosed that the operator of the vehicle was traveling south on Post Road near Fisher Avenue while the pedestrian, identified as Darrell Daugherty, of Market Street in Warren, was crossing the road. Investigators continue interviewing the driver, identified as John Robishaw of Nausauket Road in Warwick, and are attempting to locate any other possible witnesses. At this time, neither speed nor alcohol appears to be a factor. Visibility at the time of the collision was only fair, due to the overcast conditions and minimal lighting. The pedestrian was wearing dark clothing and headphones at the time, which may have been factors.

“He’s still in the hospital and his condition hasn’t changed,” Lt. Michael Gilbert said yesterday.

Any person with information related to the collision is requested to contact the Warwick Police Department Traffic Division at 468-4293.
