Personal holiday concert strikes a chord
FIRST CHRISTMAS: Sarah holds her 4-month-old daughter, Drew, during the festivities. This will be the baby’s first Christmas, as her age and hat indicate.

At least 75 members of the Greenwood Elementary School Chorus, as well as chorus teacher Pamela Lawson, visited the home of Denise Walker (center), a teacher who retired from the school in October due to an ongoing health issue. Fifth and sixth graders joined together on the front lawn of her Greenwood home to sing holiday hits and share holiday cheer. When they sang “We Wish You a Merry Christmas,” they substituted the chorus with “We love you, Mrs. Walker.” She replied, “I love you, too.” At least 30 people, including Walker’s husband Steve, their two daughters, Julie and Sarah, Steve’s mother Joan, plus parents and younger siblings of the schoolchildren looked on and sang along. After the performance, the children gave her gifts, including handmade cards and a bouquet of orchids. Then, the Walkers invited everyone into their home for hot chocolate, cookies and munchkins. “Who else gets a personal Christmas concert on their front lawn?” Walker said in appreciation.
