The Pilgrim and Toll Gate girls’ indoor track teams both competed in class meets over the weekend, and they each came away with solid finishes.
The Pats finished in fourth place in the Large Schools class, grabbing 34 points to finish behind La Salle (141), Classical (81) and Coventry (36). The Titans took third place in the Medium Schools Class, with 57 points. Barrington won the class with 91.5 points, while South Kingstown finished second with 59.16.
Toll Gate was led by sophomore Erika Pena. Pena finished in first place in both the high jump and the long jump, while also running to a second-place finish in the 55 hurdles. Freshman Heather Allstrom also had a big day, taking second place in the long jump and seventh place in the 55 dash. Allstrom was also part of the fifth place 4x400 relay team, along with Elena Chace, Ashley Chin and Annemarie Martella.
Junior Maddie Thibeault took second in the high jump, Jess Cawley took fifth in the 1000, Nora Hall was sixth in the 600 and Nina Thibeault was sixth in the weight throw. The team of Cawley, Katherine Lavallee, Hall and Chace were third in the 4x800 relay.
For the Pats, junior Becca O’Donnell was the team’s top performer with a first-place finish in the long jump. Senior Destinee Barrette also stood out, taking third in the weight throw and fourth in the shot put.
Junior Maddison Caron was strong in the throwing events as well, taking sixth place in both the shot put and the weight throw. In the long jump, freshman Kayda Phillip finished fifth, while senior Natalie Tocco finished fifth in the 3000.
Freshman Nicole Morales took seventh in the 300.
Warwick Vets also competed over the weekend in the Medium Schools Class. Its top two finishers were Alyssa McCracken in seventh place in the shot put and Kayla Bourbon in seventh place in the weight throw.
The Rhode Island State Meet is next on the docket, and it will be held on Saturday, Feb. 16 at 12 p.m. at the Providence Career and Technical Academy.
