Pilgrim hockey takes to the community, helps out at WCAP

Posted

The Pilgrim High School hockey team lent a helping hand to the community last week for the holiday season.

The Pats went to the Westbay Marketplace in Warwick to take part in the Westbay Community Action program.

The Westbay Marketplace collects food for hungry families in need.

The goal of the food service program is to “end hunger in our community and to help citizens achieve self-sufficiency.”

The team broke down six pallets of food plus boxed carrots, potatoes and onions. Because WCAP doesn’t have a loading dock, this type of work is needed to move the products inside, as trucks of food arrive regularly.

The Pats formed a line and helped move the food inside as a team. Their efficiency allowed them to move a large amount of food in just under two hours, which allowed for workers to continue boxing and preparing food for families in need this holiday season in a timely fashion, maximizing the output.

The team does plan on partaking in additional community service initiatives throughout this season and beyond.
