Pilgrim shines at Schomp Invite

The Pilgrim girls’ outdoor track announced itself as a contender at Exeter-West Greenwich’s Schomp Invitational on Saturday.

The Pats, led by a standout day from senior Rebecca O’Donnell, finished third at the meet, behind perennial state-title contenders La Salle and Classical. The Rams had 83 points, the Purple had 69 and Pilgrim had 67.

O’Donnell did a lot of the damage herself. She captured first place in two individual events, winning the long jump with a leap of 16-feet, six-inches, and winning the triple jump with a distance of 35-feet 1.5-inches. She also ran on Pilgrim’s first-place 4x100 relay team along with sophomore Emma Landroche, Molly Lynch and Nicole Morales.

In the 100 dash, O’Donnell finished in third place, bringing her individual total to 36 points. She was named the track-event MVP of the entire meet.

Junior Melanie Brunelle also had an impressive day, taking second place in the high jump and adding a third place in the triple jump.

Landroche was another standout, as she took second in the 100 and fifth in the 200 on top of her contribution to the winning relay team.

Other point-scorers for the Pats were Morales, who finished fourth in the 200, Danika Wayss, who finished fifth in the 1500 and Madison Stanley, who was sixth in the 400.

Toll Gate also competed in the meet, and finished in 19th place with seven total points.

Freshman Ani Armenakyan scored six of the points with a third-place showing in the shot put, while fellow sophomore Courtney Jacobsen added the other point with a sixth-place finish in the hammer.
