FALSE REPORT

Warwick Police Department responded to multiple addresses yesterday morning after a man called Butler Hospital reporting his stepson was covered in blood and that if they didn’t admit the juvenile, he was going to further harm him.

The man, later identified as Jared Rogers, 19, of 149 Haswill St. also spoke to a Warwick police negotiator, continuing to elaborate on the false report while officers from Warwick and West Warwick raced to several addresses in an attempt to locate the child. It was later learned the child did not exist and Rogers admitted the hoax. Rodgers was taken into custody in Providence after the cell phone he was using was traced to an address there. He was taken to Warwick Police headquarters where he was charged with one count of filing a false report.

LARCENIES

Someone broke the windows of several cars on Toledo Avenue overnight on Feb. 13 and stole a $500 iPhone 4S 8GB. No witnesses.

A resident of Cushing Road told police someone got inside his car and took $150 worth of change and $110 GPS unit on Feb. 12. Police said it looked like the suspect left a yellow snow scraper behind. It was taken for fingerprints.

A Fourth Avenue resident called police and complained that vandals smashed the passenger window on his 2010 Ford pickup on Feb.12. Police said it looked like someone had gone through the cab of the truck but the owner said there was nothing missing. No witnesses.

A Partition Street resident reported that his driver’s side front window was smashed overnight on Feb. 10. The owner reported that $3 in change was missing from the car as well. No suspects.

A resident of Cooper Avenue told Officer Tammy Mello he heard some men outside his window on Feb. 7 and looked out to see two men moving around before getting into a black sedan and driving off. He said he later found that his briefcase was missing from his car and that a 16GB iPad worth around $200 was in the briefcase.

HIT AND RUN

A manager at Sullivan Tire on Jefferson Boulevard told police he arrived at work on Feb. 13 and found black glass on the sidewalk beside the gate for the yard and one of the posts bent enough to affect the opening and closing of the gate. Officer Mitchell Voyer said it looked like heavily tinted rear window glass that was printed with a defroster grid. The manager said he didn’t want to file a complaint but did want a record of the damage. He said they could straighten the gatepost themselves.

SHOPLIFTING

Officer Mitchell Voyer reported arresting a shoplifting suspect at the Target store in the Warwick Mall on Feb. 13. Loss prevention at the store said they saw him select a number of items from the electronics section and conceal them in his jacket and pants before walking out of the store. They told Voyer the stuff was worth $504.93 and they had video of the suspect taking it. They also told him the suspect claimed he had no ID on him. Voyer said the man claimed his name was “Jeff Binzarr” with a date of birth of Feb. 12, 1995 but he would not make eye contact with Voyer. Voyer said he warned him he would be charged with obstruction if he was lying but the suspect insisted he was telling the truth. Voyer said they were on the road to headquarters when the suspect said, “Officer, I will tell you my real name now.” Tyler Yetton, 21, of 506 Killingly St. in Providence was charged with shoplifting and obstructing an officer and then released with a summons.

Officer Aaron Kay arrested a woman at the Wal-Mart store in the Rhode Island Mall on Feb. 13. Loss prevention at the store told Kay she tried to steal a 55-inch television set worth $639.86 by wheeling it out of the store, not bothering to stop at a register and pay for it. He said he also had video of the same woman and a friend taking a 47-inch television worth $1,148 on Feb. 6. Christina L. Couture, 24, of 341 East Main St. in Fall River was charged with shoplifting and then released to Kent Hospital for drug detox.

DUI AND REFUSAL

Officer Aaron Kay reported he was on patrol around 5:55 p.m. on Feb. 7 when he encountered a minor accident in Apponaug. He said he checked on the people involved and no one was seriously injured but one of the drivers appeared to be inordinately upset about it and appeared to be under the influence of something. He said he gave the woman a field sobriety test. He said the woman failed the field sobriety test and he had her transported to Kent Hospital because he believed her to be on drugs. He said a doctor checked her out medically and refused to take a chemical test. Shondi D. Fabiano, 41, of 113 Wheeler Ave. in Cranston was charged with DUI and refusal and later released to a sober adult.

Officer Aaron Kay reported he was on patrol on Feb. 4 when he was dispatched to an accident scene at Waldron and Warwick Avenues around 11 p.m. He said they found a car stuck up on a snow bank and attempted to get the keys from the operator but she became combative. Kay said the woman appeared disoriented and was “mush mouthed” when she spoke. He said he had to grab her by the elbow and pull her out of the car and she nearly fell over several times and was unable to complete a field sobriety test. He said they found several empty and full bottles of wine in the car. He said she was taken to Kent Hospital because she seemed extremely intoxicated but she refused to take a blood test. He said he left Olga B. Downes, 52, of 651 Narragansett Pkwy., to the custody and care of the staff. He charged her with DUI, refusal and failing to control her vehicle.

ASSISTING

On Feb. 17, Warwick police assisted the Milford, Mass. police in arresting a man wanted for attempted murder in their town. Milford police said that Tramaine McNeill, 21, of Bellingham, Mass., was wanted as a suspect in a home invasion, assault with a dangerous weapon with intent to commit murder. Milford said they developed information that McNeill may have fled their state and was possibly hiding at a home on Vanderbilt Road in Warwick.

Warwick and Milford police responded to the home on Vanderbilt Road. Believing McNeill was inside, and after 30 minutes of attempting to make contact with someone inside, McNeill came out and surrendered peacefully. McNeill was arraigned in Kent County Courthouse as a fugitive from justice. He waived extradition and will be turned over to Massachusetts authorities.
