Zaborski spoke with a woman who said she went to Stop & Shop at 300 Quaker Lane on Feb. 28 at 1:30 p.m. and purchased items at the self-checkout, totaling $26.91. At that time, she said she requested cash back from the self-checkout machine in the amount of $80. She then removed the purchased items and the receipt but left the cash in the dispenser. After exiting the store, the woman remembered she forgot the cash and went back to get it three minutes later but it was gone. SHOPLIFTING

Officer Kevin McGuire was dispatched to the J. C. Penny store at Warwick Mall, 400 Bald Hill Road, at approximately 6:30 p.m. on March 3 for a report of a shoplifter in custody. McGuire said he met with the loss prevention officer who said he observed a female select a makeup item, take it out of its box, and place the empty box back on the shelf before placing the makeup item in her jacket pocket. The woman then made her way to another display, selected another makeup item, removed it from the box, placed the empty box back on the shelf and put the item in her pocket. The woman then exited the store, passing all points of purchase but made no attempt to pay for the concealed merchandise. She was approached by loss prevention outside the store and escorted back inside, where both makeup items were recovered, representing a total loss to the store of $50. HI-DEF HIJINKS

Officers Matthew Moretti and Stephen Major were dispatched to Wal-Mart, 650 Bald Hill Road, at 4:52 p.m. on March 7 for the report of a shoplifting in progress. Dispatched advised that a 6-foot, white male, wearing a black jacket with yellow lettering and a white ball cap, had shoplifted from Wal-Mart and was running across the parking lot toward Sears Automotive. Dispatch also advised that the suspect had left the stolen property at the door, which was a 42-inch Vizio LCD television, and that he may also be in possession of a knife. Officer Mitchell Voyer met with the assistant store manager who said he observed a man with a 42-inch Vizio TV in his carriage pass all points of sale with the TV without paying for the merchandise. When the manager and an asset protection associate approached the man on the sidewalk, he told them he wanted to see if the TV would fit in his car. The man then said he didn’t want to go to jail today, left the TV and ran through the parking lot. Officer Major advised that the suspect may have run across Route 2, due to the footprints in the snow that he was following. Major continued to track the footprints up the Pawtuxet River toward Route 295 south, when Moretti observed the male suspect. Moretti said the suspect was ordered to stop and was taken into custody by Major without incident. The man was then escorted to a safe location, where he was identified as the one who stole items from Wal-Mart. The TV was valued at $898, and a pack of batteries, which were located on the man and turned over, was valued at $9.83. Brad Beaudin, 27, of 4430 Post Road, Apt. 22B, Warwick, was transported to Warwick Police Department headquarters, where he was fingerprinted, processed and then released on a District Court summons.
