SHOPLIFTING

Officer Eric Lima was dispatched to loss prevention office at J. C. Penney, 400 Bald Hill Rd., at approximately 6:27 p.m. on April 14 for the report of one adult female in custody for shoplifting. Lima met with a loss prevention associate, who told him she observed a female in the Sephora section of the store select a Nars makeup item and conceal it in her handbag. The woman then took her cell phone out of her handbag and concealed several more Nars items in it. She then exited the store via the outside entrance in the Petite Department, passing all points of sale and made no attempt to pay for the concealed merchandise. Loss prevention told Lima they approached the woman and escorted her back into the store to the loss prevention office. Once there, the concealed merchandise, representing a total value of $134, was recovered and Brianna Montaquila, 21, of 489 Greenville Ave., Johnston was arrested and transported to Warwick Police Department Headquarters for processing, where she was charged with one count of Shoplifting – Misdemeanor, with a Third Division District Court date, and released with a summons. Lima said he was provided with an itemized sales receipt and photograph of the merchandise, as well as a copy of the surveillance footage, which was all entered into evidence at headquarters and placed into the BCI mailbox.

Officer Tomas Bogusz was dispatched to the Wal-Mart Department Store, 840 Post Rd., at approximately 11:25 a.m. on April 12 for the report of a shoplifter in custody. Due to the female shoplifter having three young children with her, Bogusz said another officer responded along with him. Upon arrival, Bogusz said he met with the reporting party, who told him he had a woman in custody and that she had three juvenile children with her. Due to the situation involving the children, Bogusz said he requested a sergeant respond to the scene. Bogusz said the man he spoke with told him he observed the woman enter the store with her three young children, pushing a store carriage. Once inside, he said she selected several items and proceeded to conceal them in a diaper bag that was inside the carriage. The man said she then selected other items, which she paid for but did not pay for the concealed items inside the diaper bag. She then left the store and was approached by loss prevention and escorted back inside, where 41 items were recovered, totaling $292.87. Bogusz said the woman was allowed to respond to Warwick Police Department Headquarters in her own vehicle with her three children. Upon arrival at headquarters, Iris Reyes, 25, of 10 Calla St., 1st Floor, Providence was processed, charged with one count of Shoplifting – Misdemeanor and then released on a Third District Court summons.

BROKEN WINDOW

Officer Mitchell Voyer responded to the entrance of the bike path at West Natick Rd. at approximately 8:40 p.m. on April 13 for the report of a malicious damage to a vehicle. Upon arrival, Voyer met with a man, who told him someone had smashed the driver’s side window of his vehicle. He told Voyer that at approximately 6:30 p.m., he went down to the bike path to skateboard and when he returned to his vehicle at approximately 8:30 p.m., he noticed that the window had been smashed. Voyer said the window was completely smashed and he observed a small piece of cement that was inside the vehicle on the driver’s side seat. Voyer said there was no evidence to indicate entry had been gained into the vehicle. Upon further observation, he said the glove compartment was closed and a wallet that had been left in the vehicle was untouched. Voyer said he checked the vehicle’s ignition, but it did not appear to have been tampered with by the suspect. The man said he does wish to file a complaint and provided a written statement. Voyer said the case would be forwarded to Detectives for follow-up.

STOLEN WALKER

Officer Mitchell Voyer responded to Sparrows Point 3 on Hardig Rd. at approximately 9:15 p.m. on April 12 for the report of a larceny. Upon arrival, Voyer met with a woman, who told him he walker, which she uses due to her lack of mobility, had been stolen. The woman told Voyer that at approximately 6 p.m., she left her walker, a black and red Vanguard walker with a cushioned seat valued at about $400, near the picnic benches in front of Sparrows Point 3 and then left with her family. She said when she returned home at approximately 8 p.m., the walker was gone. The woman said she looked around and asked people in the area if they had seen it, but no one had and she was unable to locate it. Voyer said the woman wishes to file a complaint and completed a written statement. Voyer said the apartment management office was closed at the time of his visit, as they are only open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. He advised the woman to contact Warwick Police if she became aware of any additional information. The case was forwarded to Detectives for follow-up.
