DOG IN HOT CAR

Animal Control Officer James Channell was dispatched to the parking lot of Nordstrom Rack at 400 Bald Hill Road at approximately 12:48 p.m. on April 18 for the report of a dog in a hot car that was panting heavily. Dispatched stated the vehicle was a white Audi, with license plate QR-30. Channell said the reporting party called and said she stood beside the car for 30 minutes waiting for the owner before she called dispatch. Upon arrival at 1:02 p.m., Channell said he found the white Audi parked in direct sun with all four windows up and the sunroof open three inches. He said he looked through the driver’s side window to see a small white poodle on the front driver’s side floor heavily panting with no water in the car. Channell said he radioed dispatch for the outside temperature at T.F. Green Airport and was advised it was 74 degrees at 1 p.m. He said he then retrieved his RayTeck laser mini-gun, put it through the three-inch space in the sunroof and pointed it at the interior of the vehicle. Channell obtained a temperature reading of 120 degrees. He said he also pointed the RayTeck gun toward the front area where the dog was laying and received a temperature reading of 90 degrees. At that time, Channell said he went into Nordstrom’s to the checkout and spoke with the manager, who made an announcement for the owner of the white Audi with license plate QR-30 to come to the checkout area. Channell said he went back to the Audi, and after waiting until 1:38 p.m. without the owner showing up; he radioed dispatch for apparatus. Channell said Warwick Fire Department apparatus was able to unlock the passenger side front door and he was able to secure the dog in a pet carrier and transport it to the Warwick Animal Shelter in his air-conditioned truck. He said Bailey is a 6-year-old white small male neutered poodle up to date with his rabies vaccination given by Abbot Animal Hospital expiring on Nov. 30, 2017. Mingming Zhao, 33, of 43 Sage Dr., Cranston was issued a violation for animal confined in a motor vehicle, with a court date for a hearing on May 7. Channell said the violation was mailed to Zhao and the ticket was submitted to the Records Division.

CONCRETE CUTTER GONE

Officer Michael Walker met with a woman in the front lobby of the Warwick Police Headquarters at approximately 10:27 a.m. on April 16 in reference to a stolen concrete cutter. In speaking with the woman, Walker said the company she works for (SB Associates) rented a concrete cutter from United Rentals in Smithfield. The concrete cutter was described as a Diamond Products 18-inch walk behind concrete saw (serial number 148378). The woman said the cutter was delivered to their business at 450 Pavilion Avenue on March 25. She said the saw was used that day and they placed a call to United Rentals to have them pick the saw up after they were done using it that day. When the delivery driver arrived to pick up the saw, she said he called asking where the equipment was and the woman told Walker that she believed the cutter had already been picked up by the company and that they did not have it. Walker said he spoke with the manager of United Rentals, who said they are willing to press charges if anybody is found with the concrete saw cutter. Walker said the cutter disappeared between March 25 and March 27. There were no video cameras at the location to give any additional information.

STOLEN PHONE

Officer Jason Brodeur was dispatched to Elmhurst Street at approximately 1:06 p.m. on April 20 for the report of a larceny of a cell phone. Brodeur met with the reporting party, who said that her silver iPhone 6 was stolen at the Planet Fitness located at 1222 Warwick Avenue on April 17 at approximately 6:40 p.m. She said she left her phone on the treadmill. When she went out to her car, she said she realized she left her phone inside, she returned inside and found that the phone was gone. Brodeur sadi the iPhone serial number is F17NDC3BG5MC and the phone was entered into NCIC as stolen. Brodeur said he then went to Planet Fitness and spoke to staff, who informed him there were no security cameras. No suspects.

PURLOINED PURSE

Officer Adam Arico responded to the lobby at Warwick Police Headquarters at 7 p.m. on April 14 to meet with a party regarding a larceny. The woman said she went to Wal-Mart at 650 Bald Hill Road to pick up a prescription for her husband. She said she entered the store, bought her prescriptions and returned to the parking lot to her vehicle. When she returned to the parking lot, she said she had her purse inside the shopping cart. She said she got into her vehicle and drove way before realizing she had forgotten her purse in the shopping cart. She told Arico she returned to the store but the purse could not be located. She described it as tan in color with gold chain-type straps. She said inside the purse she had paperwork with her husband’s personal information from his recent hospital stay as well as her wallet with miscellaneous items, including her ID and credit and debit cards. She indicated that she contacted the bank and had all of her cards and account numbers changed to prevent any type of fraudulent transactions.

MISSING WALLET

Officer Randy Francis responded to the Warwick Police Headquarters at approximately 3 p.m. on April 18 for a reported lost/stolen woman’s wallet. Francis met with the reporting party, who said on April 16 she was walking from the Dunkin’ Donuts, 699 Bald Hill Road, and walked westbound on East Avenue. She said she walked for approximately .25 miles and discovered that her turquoise colored women’s wallet was missing. She said she returned to her starting point but did not locate the wallet. The contents of the wallet included: one Tennessee driver’s license, one Social Security card, one Medicare Human card, one Putnam Co. bank card, and between $60 and $80 in U.S. currency. As of April 18, Francis said no one had reported or turned in a lost wallet matching the description.
