LARCENY

Officer Jeremy Smith was dispatched to Spoffard Avenue at approximately 6:06 a.m. on May 12 for a larceny complaint. He said he was informed that all four tires were stolen from the victim’s vehicle. Upon arrival, Smith observed the vehicle balancing on two tires placed underneath the vehicle with all four tires and rims removed. Smith met with the reporting party, who said he had parked his vehicle in his driveway at approximately 11:30 the night before and discovered the larceny at around 6 the next morning. He described the stolen items as four 18-inch aluminum alloy Honda Sport wheels with unknown tire models. He estimated the cost to be about $300 per wheel. The man said the wheels came stock on the vehicle and he doesn’t have a receipt for them. Smith said he inspected the vehicle and area for fingerprints and other evidence, which was negative. Smith said he spoke with the resident across the street, who said she heard a vibrating noise at about 4:30 that morning but did not get out of bed to see what was going on. She described the noise as sounding like an air ratchet used in mechanic shops. Smith said he also spoke to other residents, but they had not heard or seen anything between the hours in question. Smith said one of the houses in the area had numerous exterior cameras, some of which could have a view of the victim’s driveway and the street in front of his house, but he was unable to reach the residents of the home.

SHOPLIFTING

Officer Darren Parrillo responded to the Wal-Mart at 650 Bald Hill Road at approximately 12:30 p.m. on May 11 in reference to two adult females in custody for shoplifting. Upon arrival, Parrillo met with the reporting party, who said he wished to pursue charges against only one of the females. Parrillo said criminal checks were conducted against the female who Wal-Mart did not wish to press charges against, which were negative, and she was released with a No Trespass order. Parrillo said he remained on scene and spoke with an asset protection agent, who said he observed two white females enter the ladies department and started to select several items and conceal them in empty Wal-Mart bags, then proceeded to the front of the store passing all points of sale with the concealed merchandise. Once outside, the agent said he and another agent approached the women, identified themselves as asset protection and escorted them back inside the store. The total value in theft was $128.08. Melanie Silvia, 40, of 92 Victoria Avenue, Cranston was placed into custody and transported to Warwick Police Department headquarters, where she was processed and later released with a Third District Court summons for one count of Shoplifting.

Officer Quentin Tavares was dispatched to the Wal-Mart at 650 Bald Hill Road at approximately 5:46 p.m. on May 11 for the report of a shoplifting. Prior to his arrival, Dispatch advised that loss prevention currently had two adult females in custody. Upon arrival, Tavares spoke with a loss prevention agent, who said he observed two females enter the ladies department, selected several items and concealed them in their purses. He said one female selected a pair of socks, one bra, one vest, and two maxi skirts for a total value of $45.59, and the other selected a pair of shorts, two T-shirts, one pair of overalls, and one pair of denim Capri pants for a total value of $53.48. He said after they concealed the merchandise, the females proceeded to the front of the store where they passed all last points of purchase and made no attempt to pay for the concealed merchandise. Once outside, loss prevention approached the women, identified themselves as Wal-Mart asset protection and escorted the women back inside the store, where the merchandise was recovered, worth a total of $99.07. Loss prevention advised the store wished to press charges on both females and have them trespassed from the store. Anna Marie Campos, 20, of 45 Mitchell Street, Providence and Fransheska Barreiro, 18, of 14 Brook Street, North Bridge, MA were arrested and transported to Warwick Police Department headquarters, where they were fingerprinted, photographed, and processed. Both were charged with one count of Shoplifting.

Officer Aaron Kay was dispatched to Macy’s at 400 Bald Hill Road at approximately 4:14 p.m. on May 15 for the report of a shoplifting where a male was in the custody of loss prevention. Upon arrival, Kay spoke to a loss prevention associate, who said she observed a male wearing a blue shirt with gray sleeves and jeans carrying a plastic Old Navy bag enter the Nautica department, select a dress shirt, remove the EAS sensor tag and concealed it in the bag. He then selected a pair of jeans, removed the sensor tag with his foot and concealed them in the bag. The man then selected a pair of tan shorts and concealed them in the bag. He was then observed selecting two more pairs of tan shorts, which he purchased at the Polo register. He then proceeded out the North exits with the three unpaid for items passing all points of purchase. Once outside, he was detained by mall security and loss prevention and escorted back inside, where the merchandise was recovered. Kay said the dress shirt and jeans were damaged. The total value of the merchandise was $169.97. Kay said Macy’s wished to prosecute and trespass the man from the store and seeks restitution for the damaged items. Mark P. Olivo, 34, of 349 Sunset Avenue, Apt. 6, North Providence was arrested and transported to Warwick Police Department headquarters, where he was later processed, fingerprinted, photographed and afforded a phone call. Kay said a check of Olivo’s criminal history revealed two previous convictions for shoplifting. The first was a Shoplifting-Misdemeanor, which reached a nolo plea, resulting in one year suspended/one year probation. The second conviction was a Shoplifting-Felony, where he entered a nolo plea, resulting in five years full sentence, 90-day term to serve, 57 months suspended/57 months probation and substance abuse counseling. Due to his previous convictions and the fact that the amount shoplifted at Macy’s was over $100; Olivo was charged with one count of Shoplifting-Felony. The CCTV surveillance disc and the receipt for the stolen items were entered into evidence. Kay said Olivo is still on probation and the charges will be brought to the Attorney General to determine whether or not he will be violated on the new charge.
