SHOPLIFTING

Officer Darren Parrillo responded to the Kohl’s at 650 Bald Hill Road at approximately 1:15 p.m. on June 9 in reference to an adult female in custody for shoplifting. Parrillo met with the loss prevention supervisor, who said he observed a female, later identified as Katherine Weeks, 21, of 67 Hamlin Street, Apt. 2, Providence, select various items and place them in her cart. She then went over to the Juniors Department and concealed the merchandise in her purse. She then made her way past all points of purchase and exited the store making no attempt to purchase the items. The supervisor said he approached the woman, identified himself as loss prevention and asked her to come back in the store, which she did. He told Parrillo the incident was captured on CCTV and the store wishes to prosecute. The total value of the 11 items taken was $169.64. Parrillo said Weeks was taken into custody and transported to Warwick Police Headquarters, where she was processed and later released with a District Court summons. She was charged with one count of misdemeanor shoplifting.

FENDER-BENDER

Officer Randy Francis responded to the intersection of Paterson Avenue and Cowesett Road at 2:17 p.m. on June 11 for a reported accident between a gray 2008 Mazda and a green Honda CRV. Francis met with the driver of the Mazda, who said he was stopped in traffic on Paterson Ave. directly behind the CRV, when suddenly that vehicle backed into his vehicle. Francis said he observed heavy front-end damage to the Mazda. Francis said he then spoke with the driver of the CRV, who said she was at the intersection of Paterson Ave. and Cowesett Rd., and because she was too far into the lane of Cowesett Rd., she backed up, colliding with the vehicle behind her. Francis said he observed minor damage to the rear bumper of the CRV. Francis said it should be noted that the CRV had four additional passengers at the time of the collision. He said Charlene M. Tolentino, 24, of 16 Erastus St., Apt. 3, Providnece, the driver of the CRV, did not have a license on her person at the scene but he was able to verify her identity utilizing her date of birth, Social Security number and DMV photo through the R.I. DMV database. Francis said it revealed that Tolentino had a suspended license and an active arrest warrant for a Failure to Appear (FTA). Tolentino was subsequently taken into custody and transported to Warwick Police Department Headquarters, where she was booked and processed for the FTA warrant and operating under the suspended license. She was issued citations for the Suspended License and for Restrictions on Backing. Tolentino remained at headquarters until she was transported to the Adult Correctional Institute.
